Montauk. If you've ever been there, you know there's something magical about it. It's not like touristic beach towns: it's a community with a real heart and soul, regardless of the season.
I first went to Montauk ten years ago at about the time I started making jewelry and I was hooked from my first visit. I love this small town's dichotomous nature: it's tranquil yet energetic; beautiful yet gritty; romantic yet ordinary. It's my home away from Brooklyn.
First thing in the morning I go beach combing at Ditch Plains where I find hidden treasures of shells, seaweed, and tiny animal carcasses in the sand. During the day, my friends and I camp out on the beach and talk and laugh until our faces hurt. At day's end we head to the Montauket to watch the sun set, always a little too quickly, and then we gorge ourselves on tuna melts and peanut butter pie at The Dock.
Whenever I need a recharge, or a little inspiration, Montauk is my favorite go-to place.
My name is Judi and I make sustainable fine jewelry. I wake up happy every day because I'm able to do what I love for a living.
