I love making custom jewelry. It's such a collaborative effort between my clients and me and every time I create a unique piece for someone, I make new friends, learn new skills, and I share in someone's happiness.
I just completed this ring for a super special couple. They met as teenagers and after 20 years together, and with two beautiful children, they wanted (and trusted!) me to create something to celebrate their treasured relationship.
The process was exciting from start to finish. Together we found the stone--we looked at about a dozen and when we saw this gorgeous green sapphire, we knew it was "the one". Once we selected the stone, the design process went into full swing. My clients wanted a ring that was classically inspired with a modern feel so I drew a couple of ideas for them. When we decided on the design, carving the wax model began (that's the really fun part!). Along the way, I'd send photos of the progress and we'd adjust the design until the stone in its setting fit well and looked just as we'd wanted it.
We cast the ring first in silver (to make sure the fit was right), then we cast the final version in 18K recycled green gold. We gave the metal a matte finish, which looks at once modern and ancient. On the inside of the band is a secret inscription from husband to wife.
I love how jewelry tells such wonderful stories. I'm so honored to have played a part in making a special piece that celebrates 20 years of love and friendship. Here's to 100 more years!
